With demolition nearing completion, attention shifts naturally to exactly what the replacement building will look like. Artists’ impressions of the new building have been widely publicised, but much will depend on design details and the quality of materials and construction. Friends of Lewes is represented on the liaison group and continues to press for sympathetic design and quality of finish.
The developer has built sample panels in the car park across Court Road to show the materials to be used – these were readily accessible for only a few days before the site was boarded for security reasons.
Both FoL members and Town Councillors found this reassuring.
So that all may see what is proposed, here are photographs of the proposed materials – try to picture them in a weathered-in state.
