Friends of Lewes Planning Committee Report 6 July 2017

Representations made on planning applications following the meeting of the Planning Committee held on 6 July 2017

Representations made to planning applications in weeks ending 13, 20 and 27 June and 4 July 2017

Week ending 13 June

SDNP/17/02693/HOUS: Single storey side extension and new doors to rear. 51 Gundreda Road.
Friends of Lewes have no objection in principle to the proposed development but consider the visual impact would be improved by setting back the façade of the extension to make it subsidiary to the main building and using a pitched roof rather than a flat roof.

SDNP/17/02738/FUL: Erection of wooden storage shed in the rear garden. 21 Cliffe High Street (Vets).
Friends of Lewes object to the use of the materials proposed, which are not traditional and contrary to the Lewes Conservation Area Management Plan.

Week ending 20 June

SDNP/17/02644/HOUS: Replacement of existing timber windows and doors in PVCu. 11 Southcliffe.
Friends of Lewes object to the replacement of the original timber windows and doors with uPVC in the Conservation Area. uPVC is an inappropriate material to be used and contrary to the Lewes Conservation Area Management Plan, which requires that new works, repair and maintenance should utilise the traditional materials used in the town.

Week ending 27 June

SDNP/17/03130/HOUS: Replacement of pebbledash render with white plaster and repaint front door. 3 Church Row.
Friends of Lewes object to the replacement of pebbledash render with white plaster. Numbers 1, 2 & 3 Church Row all have matching tile hanging to the first floor with a pebbledash render to the ground floor.  As such, number 3 Church Row is visually identical to numbers 1 & 2. The proposal to remove the pebbledash on the ground floor of only number 3 Church Row and to replace it with plaster would make it look very inconsistent with numbers 1 & 2. The Society also comments that the application is incomplete as no elevations are provided and although there is reference to an ‘attached photograph’, there is no photograph available online.

Week ending 4 July

SDNP/17/02836/HOUS: Three storey rear extension, installation of a bike shed and a wooden gate in front garden and internal alterations. 16 St Annes Crescent.
SDNP/17/02835/HOUS: Two storey rear extension, installation of a bike shed and a wooden gate in front garden and internal alterations. 16 St Annes Crescent.
Friends of Lewes object to the installation of a bike shed and wooden gate in the front garden which are incongruous with the existing fence and contrary to Policy 11 of the adopted Lewes District Plan Joint Core Strategy, which seeks to ensure that the design of development responds sympathetically to the site and its local context.

SDNP/17/03211/HOUS: Roof conversion incorporating rear dormer window and front conservation rooflights. 26 Leicester Road.
Friends of Lewes have no objection to the proportions of the dormer window proposed but consider it should be set down from the ridge. The side elevation drawings indicate that the top of the dormer extends right up to the ridge.

The Committee examined the following applications and had no observations to make:
