Representations made on planning applications following the meeting of the Planning Committee held on 6 December 2022:
SDNP/22/04690/FUL: 68-69 High Street: Erection of a roof extension to provide an additional one-bedroom flat.
The Friends of Lewes object to the proposed modifications to the shop front, which should be retained in its existing condition with the symmetrical layout and entrance door to the shop centrally located.
SDNP/22/04711/LIS: Pelham House, St Andrews Lane: Repairs and repointing to existing napped flint and brickwork garden walls on the east and west boundaries of the rear garden, as well as a reduction in height and local rebuilding of the west wall.
The Friends of Lewes welcome the proposed repairs and repointing to these significant walls within the Conservation Area, but seek confirmation that adequate drainage will be provided on the retained side of both walls in order to ensure their long term stability.
SDNP/22/04757/FUL: 5 Pelham Terrace: Ground floor alterations including new kitchen window and new doors, replacement of roof covering and Installation of solar panels to roofs.
The Friends of Lewes support this application for alterations to the rear of the property and note the quality of the proposed works.
SDNP/22/04823/HOUS: 4 Hereward Way: Erection of replacement rear extension with roof terrace, addition of rear dormer, erection of replacement outbuilding to rear, erection of outbuilding to the front, installation of brise soleil and heat pump to rear, addition of solar roof panels, and alterations to fenestration throughout.
The Friends of Lewes object to the large proposed box dormer on the southern elevation as it would not be in accordance with the agreed design guidance for roof extensions.
SDNP/22/04883/ADV: 70 High Street: Existing timber fascia panels to be painted green with relief gold lettering of the name of the proposed café. Traditional multi-coloured Korean details painted on each end panel.
The Friends of Lewes support this proposal and welcome the use of the traditional painting at each end of the fascia panel and the omission of any additional lighting.
SDNP/22/04928/HOUS: 23 Cluny Street: Installation of replacement front door and installation of a new window to rear elevation.
The Friends of Lewes request further information of the proposed works as their acceptability will depend on the quality of the detailing.
SDNP/22/04944/FUL: The Lewes New School, Talbot Terrace: Erection of single storey extension to the rear of the north building to form café.
The Friends of Lewes object to the proposed combination of public access and the provision of outside seating as part of the cafe, which in good weather is likely to become noisy, and result in the facility becoming a nuisance to neighbours.
SDNP/22/05003/HOUS: 35 Talbot Terrace.
The Friends of Lewes support this application and consider the proposals to be a particularly neat solution.
SDNP/22/05038/HOUS: 80 Western Road: Front elevation of house to be painted white and like for like replacement of front door to be painted in either stone or thistle pink.
The Friends of Lewes request more information in order to be able to access this application.
SDNP/22/05048/HOUS: 93 Highdown Road: Erection of single storey wraparound side and front extension and associated demolition of existing side extension.
The Friends of Lewes whilst supporting this application, would strongly recommend that the proposed use of zinc cladding should be restricted to the front and rear elevations of the proposed extension and not applied to the existing bay window of the existing semi-detached house.
