Representations made on planning applications following the meeting of the Planning Committee held on 7 July 2022:
SDNP/22/02298/HOUS: Installation of a below ground swimming pool with a stone terrace. 2 Riverdale.
The Friends of Lewes object to hard surfaces being constructed within the flood plain as the combination of swimming pool and surrounding stone terrace would significantly reduce the amount of rain water that could be absorbed at this location.
SDNP/22/02369/HOUS: Reconfiguration of basement stair, reinstatement of window and lightwell to basement at front, installation of ground floor to first floor lift, removal of chimney/wall to ground floor between kitchen and breakfast room, installation of French doors with extension to rear patio and internal and external alterations. 118 High Street.
The Friends of Lewes object to the use of GRP as a roof finish within the Conservation Area as part of the repair to the potting shed / utility room at the rear of the property and would prefer a lead roof to be provided as being a more sympathetic material to be used on a Listed Building of this significance. The Society would also prefer the use of ‘real flints’ on the retaining wall of the extended terrace rather than the use of ‘flint panels’.
SDNP/22/02545/HOUS: Retrospective application for the conversion and extension of double garage into ancillary annex and storage room. 9 Hawkenbury Way.
The Friends of Lewes comment that the home studio is no longer ancillary to the main building and appears to have been developed into a self-contained building and is similar to the previous comment on SDNP/22/01226/LDE which was refused on the 20th April 2022.
SDNP/22/02677/HOUS: Installation of front and side rooflights and creation of rear dormer. 49 South Way.
The Friends of Lewes object to the construction of the rear dormer to this property which is considered to be too large and not in accordance with the Friends of Lewes “The Design of Dormer Windows Planning Advice Note” published in March 2017.
SDNP/22/02707/FUL: Demolition of existing 4 bedroom 1.5 storey dwelling with associated outbuildings and erection of pre-fabricated 3/4 bedroom 2 storey dwelling with garage and the installation of solar panels, air source heat pump and electric vehicle charging point, raising the ground level up to pavement level, replacement of the existing impermeable hardstanding with permeable surface, alteration to front boundary wall and other associated alterations. 130 South Street.
The Friends of Lewes strongly support this proposal as it will result in a considerable improvement to the street scene in South Street.
SDNP/22/02947/HOUS: Loft conversion including rear dormer, installation of solar panels to rear, and installation of conservation roof lights to the front elevation. 34 De Montfort Road.
Friends of Lewes has welcomed the applicant consulting the Society and adopting some changes in design it suggested. However, it considers the use of white UVPC should not be used in within the Conservation Area. It would prefer the use of wood painted white on the soffit, fascia and new window as part of the proposed lead clad timber framed dormer to the rear of the property.
