Friends of Lewes Planning Committee Report 5 July 2018

Representations made on planning applications following the meeting of the Planning Committee held on 5 July 2018.

Weeks ending 12, 19 and 26 June and 3 July 2018

SDNP/18/00916: Westfield House, Western Road
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: The uPVC replacement windows are unacceptable within the Conservation Area and are especially inappropriate on a striking Victorian building that has been allowed to deteriorate despite being in public ownership for many decades. All replacement windows should be painted timber to replicate the originals.

SDNP/18/02749: 2 Mount Pleasant
We have no objection to the proposed investigatory works provided there is an opportunity to comment on the subsequent remedial works.

SDNP/18/02829: 34 Spences Lane
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: The proposed dormer window is too wide and too high; the design is poor and the proposed materials – grp roof, uPVC windows – are inappropriate. It does not conform to the recommendations set out in the Friends of Lewes ‘Planning Advice for Dormer Windows’.

SDNP/18/02581: 6 Baxter Road
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: Although happy in principle with the proposed extension we feel the proposed dormer is too large and is poorly designed. It does not conform to the recommendations set out in the Friends of Lewes ‘Planning Advice for Dormer Windows’.

SDNP/18/02794: 3 Southcliffe
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: uPVC replacement windows are inappropriate in the Conservation on the basis of appearance and durability. The Friends of Lewes has consistently opposed them.

SDNP/18/02708: 4 Segrave Close
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: The proposed dormer is too large and is poorly designed. It does not conform to the recommendations set out in the Friends of Lewes ‘Planning Advice for Dormer Windows’.

SDNP/18/02820: 19 Montacute Road
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: The proposed dormer is too large and is poorly designed. It does not conform to the recommendations set out in the Friends of Lewes ‘Planning Advice for Dormer Windows’.

SDNP/18/02839: Discharge of conditions at the former Magistrate’s car park in Court Road
We suggest that the proposed 2010 high black metal fencing, which would be well above head height, would be less oppressive if painted in a lighter colour.
