Guided walk around Malling Deanery Arboretum, Monday 7 July 2014, 7pm

As part of the Friends of Lewes’ Urban Arboretum project, we’re arranging a guided walk around Malling Deanery Arboretum. This is an unusual collection of trees planted in the 1970’s, and featuring some much older, previously present, specimens including Black Poplar, in a beautiful setting close the Ouse in an out-of-the-way and little known corner of Lewes.

The tour will be led by Dr Hugh Morris, who is currently Lecturer and supervisor of MSc Tropical Ecology at University of Ulm, Germany. Hugh was previously a lecturer at Plumpton College for several years, and during this period surveyed and catalogued this arboretum and developed a management plan, so is intimately acquainted with it.

Hugh is an eloquent and enthusiastic speaker with a wide knowledge of arboriculture, and a similar walk last year was extremely well-received.

The walk is on Monday July 7th, and starts at 7pm with a glass of wine in the driveway of the West Wing of the Deanery itself. This is at the bottom of Church Lane, just past St Michael’s church in South Malling. There is ample parking along Church Lane. Here’s a Google map showing the location.

There will be a £5 charge, payable on the night, to defray expenses. Our thanks go to our hosts for the evening, Michael & Janet Richards.
