Representations made on planning applications following the meeting held on Thursday, 3 July 2014.

Applications as at 10 June

SDNP/14/02856/HOUS 32 Morris Road: Loft conversion including rear dormer window
The Friends of Lewes object to this application. The scale and massing of the proposed dormer is excessive and of poor design, contrary to policies ST3 and RES13 of the Lewes District Council Local Plan. The windows in the box dormer do not match or align with those in the existing house. The development proposed fails to conserve or enhance the natural beauty of the National Park.

SDNP/14/02863/LIS Lewes Railway Station, Station Road: Erection of a freestanding advertisement sign within the booking hall
The Friends of Lewes object to this application. The proposed sign encroaches on a pinch pint in the public thoroughfare and will compromise the existing space within the building.

SDNP/14/02942/HOUS 82 Western Road: Paint front of house ‘Green Smoke’
The Friends of Lewes has no objection in principle but is unable to comment on this application as the colour cannot be accurately determined from the application documents online.

SDNP/14/02257/FUL Communal Garden, Timberyard Lane: Erection of garage for private use only and creation of communal garden
The Friends of Lewes has no objection in principle to this application but has concerns over who will be responsible for the future maintenance of the communal garden. It suggests planning conditions are necessary to ensure that the long term maintenance of the garden is assured.

SDNP/14/03049/HOUS Malling Mill Mill Road: Erection of first floor extension.
The Friends of Lewes has no objection to the principle of the proposed extension but has reservations about the design. It is happy with the design of the circular element (the base of the former mill) which is handled in a straightforward contemporary idiom but feel that this sits awkwardly with the rectangular wing at the rear. It believes a simpler contemporary treatment for the whole extension would be a better solution than the idiosyncratic Mansard roof proposed.

SDNP/14/03258/HOUS 15 Stansfield Road Demolition of existing side out-house and erection of single-storey flat-roof side extension, single-storey rear extension with pitched roof, full width rear dormer, and insertion of 3 roof-lights to front elevation.
The Friends of Lewes object to this application. The scale and massing of the proposed full width dormer to full ridge height is excessive and of unsympathetic design in relation to the neighbouring properties, contrary to policies ST3 and RES13 of the Lewes District Council Local Plan. The development proposed fails to conserve or enhance the natural beauty of the National Park.
