Friends of Lewes Planning Committee Report 3 August 2017

Representations made on planning applications following the meeting of the Planning Committee held on 3 August 2017.

Representations made to planning applications in weeks ending 11, 18 & 25 July & 1 August 2017

Week ending 11 July

SDNP/17/03124/HOUS: Loft Conversion. 75 Winterbourne Close.
Friends of Lewes object to the design of the roof dormer which is too large and out of proportion with the existing building. The dormer should be narrower and set down from the ridge of the roof.

Week ending 18 July

SDNP/17/03395/LIS: Replacement of the existing coping stones and refurbishment of the iron railings. 32 High Street (Lewes House).
Friends of Lewes welcome and support the refurbishment proposed.

Week ending 25 July

SDNP/17/02500/LIS: Demolition of upper floor of extension, re roof lower floor, erection of side/rear extension, replace existing steps with a ramp, alterations to drainage and internal works.  4 St James Street.
Friends of Lewes have no objection in principle to the development proposed. However, little information has been provided on the materials to be used and, if granted, permission should be conditional on the use of materials that are appropriate for use in the Conservation Area.

SDNP/17/03064/FUL: Proposed alterations to the glazing of the building. 40-42 Friars Walk.
Friends of Lewes have no objection to the proposed use of aluminium metal windows in this development. However, the Society objects to the fussy design which has too many glazing bars which are inappropriate and not fitting for this modern building. The glazing proposed does not respond sympathetically or contribute positively to the site and its local context, contrary to Core Policy 11 of the LDC/SDNPA Joint Core Strategy 2016.

SDNP/17/03415/HOUS: Erection of front and rear single storey extension. 6 Mildmay Road.
Friend of Lewes has concerns that the design of the front porch is out of keeping with the wider street scene.
