Representations made on planning applications following the meeting of the Planning Committee held on 6 September 2018.
Weeks ending 7, 14, 21 & 28 August & 4 September 2018
SDNP/18/03712: 186 High Street, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: We did not have an opportunity to comment on this application before it was determined but note the Conservation Consultation response about the need to discourage the internal illuminated sign, which we would support.
SDNP/18/03713: 10 Wheatsheaf Gardens, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: The proposed dormer would be too large and not conform to the recommendations set out in the Friends of Lewes ‘Planning Advice for Dormer Windows’.
SDNP/18/03535: Grange Court, Grange Road, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: The installation of the new balustrade railings to the raised front garden facing Grange Road (which seek to ‘imitate’ the existing balcony railings) are considered to be inappropriate within the overall street scene. We would recommend simple vertical metal railings to match those proposed for the top of the sloped side retaining wall in order to achieve better visual unity within the public domain.
SDNP/ 18/ 03937: 32 Friars Walk, Lewes
Although we appreciate the care been taken in the proposed works for the Meeting House, we are concerned that the adjacent mathematical tiles should remain undisturbed.
SDNP/18/04010: 191 High Street, Lewes
Although we would support in principle the ‘Change of Use’ and conversion of the Crown Inn, we are concerned about the viability of the three commercial units and the rather cramped nature of the nine residential units.
SDNP/18/04042: 2 Winterbourne Close, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: Both the proposed raising of the existing ridge line and the design of the large dormer would not conform to the recommendations set out in the Friends of Lewes ‘Planning Advice for Dormer Windows’.
SDNP/18/03699: 2 Sun Street, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: We are not convinced that the suggested mouldings for the proposed installation of a ‘dummy door’ would be visually successful.
SDNP/18/04134: 16A St John Street, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: Should the proposed alterations to the front elevation be implemented, we are concerned about its visual relationship with adjacent buildings.
SDNP/18/04206: Southover Grange, Southover High Street, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reasons:
(1) The address of this application is totally misleading as it has nothing to do with Southover Grange and is not located in Southover High Street. The proposal is to repair a collapsed brick & flint retaining wall to Paine’s Twitten, (a footway linking the bottom of St Swithuns Terrace to the bottom of Keere Street) on an embankment above Southover Road.
(2) No specific drainage provision seems to have been made to cope with the large amounts of rain water that can flow down Elm Grove and which presumably caused the collapse of part of the existing retaining wall.
SDNP/18/04023: 32 Cranedown, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: The large dormer to the rear would not conform to the advice set out in the Friends of Lewes ‘Planning Advice for Dormer Windows’.
SDNP/18/04484: 9 De Montfort Road
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: There are no details available to assess this proposal.
SDNP/18/04046: Woodyard adjacent to Waitrose, Eastgate Wharf, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reasons:
(1) Although an illustration of the type of fence proposed has been provided, there are no further details or drawings showing the height of the proposed fence within its context, particularly if the fence has to negotiate any slopes of changes in level adjacent to the Phoenix Causeway.
(2) Given that the proposed fence would be erected in a prominent riverside location within the Lewes Conservation Area, we would strongly recommend that if granted any planning consent should be ‘time limited’.
SDNP/18/04159: 4A Lansdown Place, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: There are insufficient details available to either locate or assess this proposal.
SDNP/18/04545: 92 Court Road, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: There are insufficient details to assess the impact of this proposal within its context.
SDNP/18/04554: 29 Prince Charles Road, Lewes
We OBJECT to this application for the following reason: We consider that the proposed installation of ‘violet blue’ plastic weatherboarding, (which would be clearly visible on both the front and side elevation) and difficult to detail immediately adjacent to existing render on the rear elevation would be visually unacceptable.
