SDNP/16/00636/FUL: Demolition of rear extension and garage and construction of two x 2 bed houses and the refurbishment of the basement to create a 1 bed flat. 85 High Street Lewes.
Friends of Lewes has no objection in principle to the redevelopment of this site to provide additional housing. However, it objects to the density of development which it considers an inappropriate overdevelopment of an average sized site contrary to policy ST3 of the Lewes District Local Plan. The plan of 85a is excessively deep at first floor level which results in the bedroom window being not only very close to the flower shop kitchen window, but also having an adverse impact on the small courtyard, which is effectively a shared amenity space for all three dwellings. The Society’s principal objection to the design of the development is the proposed elevation to Stewards Inn Lane, with the ‘mansard’ roof beginning just above eye level, which has a negative impact on the street scene, contrary to policy H5 of the Lewes District Local Plan. Friends of Lewes considers a more appropriate design solution for this site would be the development of two traditional two storey cottages with a shallower depth and with conventional pitched roofs.

SDNP/15/05868/HOUS: Section 73A retrospective application for the placement of a new balustrade around existing garage terrace. Dacres Kingston Road Lewes.
Friends of Lewes has reviewed the amended plans and maintains its objection to this development having been constructed contrary to condition 14 of planning permission granted under LW/10/1196/NP. This specifies that the roof area of the garage shall not be used as a balcony, roof garden or similar amenity area. The condition was made in the interest of residential amenity having regard to Policy ST3 of the Lewes District Local Plan. The Society considers that this remains the case and that the application should be refused.
SDNP/16/00469/HOUS: Section 73A Retrospective Application for a single storey side extension. 60 Valence Road Lewes.
Friends of Lewes raised no objection to application SDNP/13/03858 for the erection of a two storey extension to this property. However it objects to this proposal because it is out of context with the existing house and will appear an ugly addition compared to the previously approved scheme.
