Representations made on planning applications following the meeting of the Planning Committee held on 6 April 2017.
Representations made to planning applications in weeks ending 7, 14, 21 & 28 March & 4 April 2017
Week ending 7 March
SDNP/17/00510/HOUS: Replace existing single glazed timber sash windows with new double glazed timber sash windows. 113 Western Road.
Friends of Lewes support the replacement of existing windows with timber windows. However, it objects to the design of the proposed replacement windows because the glazing bars are not traditional; they are stuck to the face of the double glazed unit. The Society considers traditional windows with individual panes separated by glazing bars should be used in the Lewes Conservation Area.
SDNP/17/01027/HOUS: Replacement of existing dormer window at front. 58 Southover High Street.
Friends of Lewes support the renovation of the dormer window. However, it comments that the limited information provided with the application is inadequate to demonstrate what work is proposed. In particular it considers elevations of the building should be provided.
Week ending 14 March
SDNP/16/05820/HOUS: Erection of rear single storey extension, front porch and conversion of garage to living space. 52 Spences Lane.
Friends of Lewes have no objection in principle to the proposed development. However it comments that the information provided in support of the application and the overall design proposals are of poor quality.
SDNP/17/01186/HOUS: Loft conversion with dormer windows at rear and rooflights to the front. 10 Cranedown.
Friends of Lewes object to the extent of this proposal. In particular the central dormer is too big and does not complement the existing property. The roofs of the dormers go up to the ridge of the main roof and should be set down from the ridge so that the roofline is retained, unaltered.
Week ending 28 March
SDNP/17/01010/HOUS: 14 Grange Road Lewes BN7 1TS Replace windows and front door. 14 Grange Road.
Although this application was listed for public consultation in the weekly lists for w/e 28 March by Lewes DC and appears in results returned from searching the SDNPA Planning Applications site for applications validated, the application reference returns “No results found” on the SDNPA web site. Searching for 14 Grange Road produces the same result. The Society therefore raises an objection to this application because no details of this application have been published. It asks for the consultation period to be extended and start from the date on which details of the application are made public.
SDNP/17/00340/HOUS: Erection of 5 loose box stables. The Tote House, The Motor Road Old Racecourse.
Friends of Lewes object to the proposed development which it considers will have an adverse impact on the landscape. The Society regards the proposed development as an unwarranted extension beyond the existing development boundary.
Week ending 4 April
SDNP/16/05293/LIS: Installation of fibre optic broadband cabling. Strutt And Parker Walwers Lane.
Friends of Lewes object to the way in which this cabling is being installed. The photographs provided in support of this application demonstrate very clearly the appalling way in which the existing cabling has been routed around and attached to this listed building. The new cabling should be installed at ground level or preferably placed underground.
SDNP/17/01396/FUL: Demolition of 4 stables and erection of a single storey dwelling. Windmill Lodge Stables Spital Road.
Friends of Lewes have no objection in principle to the provision of new housing. However, it objects to this application because it contains inadequate information with respect to the details of the proposed construction and the materials to be used.
