Representations made on planning applications following the meeting of the Planning Committee held on Thursday, 3 September 2015.

Planning applications as at 11, 18, 25 August

Week as at 11 August

SDNP/15/03623/HOUS: Replacement of PVC windows with wooden sash windows. 18 St Annes Crescent Lewes.
Friends of Lewes welcomes the proposed improvements and supports the proposal to replace uPVC windows with wooden sash windows in the conservation area. However it has concerns that the window sections are very thick and the glazing bars are not part of the structure of the window. It considers false glazing bars applied to the surface of the window should be avoided and the design of the windows should follow the Lewes District Council Guidance Note “Windows in Historic Buildings”.

Week as at 18 August

SDNP/15/03753/HOUS: Proposed rear dormer. 4 New Road Lewes.
Friends of Lewes does not object to the overall design of the proposed rear dormer. However, it objects to the proposed use of felt roofing material as it is not sympathetic to the character of the area and considers it contrary to policy H5 of the Lewes District Council Local Plan. It believes zinc or lead roofing materials should be used in the Conservation Area.

SDNP/15/03758/ADV: Fascia board with branded sign writing. 25 – 26 High Street Lewes.
Friends of Lewes does not object to the signage proposed but comments that the sign writing is a significant feature of the shop front and considers it would look much better if it were to be centralised on the middle window rather than on the shop front overall.

Week as at 25 August

SDNP/15/03943/HOUS: Installation of dormer window to rear elevation. 12 Stansfield Road Lewes.
Friends of Lewes objects to the scale of the proposed dormer which it considers is too big, too wide and undermines the proportions, balance and overall character of the block of terraced houses. The French widows are considered to be an inappropriate dominant feature of the design. No details have been provided of the materials that will be used to clad the external elevations and it considers the development proposed is contrary to policy ST3 of the Lewes District Council Local Plan.

SDNP/15/03839/HOUS 5 English’s Passage. Extend extension, replace roofs and windows, replace cladding and insert rooflight.
