Friends of Lewes Planning Committee Report 4 December 2019

Representations made on planning applications following the meeting of the Planning Committee held on 4 December 2019:

SDNP/19/05000/FUL: Replacing and repairing slate roof and re-using existing slate in addition to replacing rainwater goods, the installation of new windows and repair of broken fencing. 15 Friars Walk.
Friends of Lewes have no objection to the proposed works and commend the attention to detail in the design of the replacement windows.  However it comments that drawings showing details of the window sections should have been a validation requirement for this application.

SDNP/19/05052/FUL: Proposed replacement of existing timber framed window units with new double glazed (Aluminium) extruded profiles. St Thomas’ Court Cliffe High Street.
Friends of Lewes have no objection to the proposed use of aluminium windows, which it considers suitable for this prominent building in the Conservation Area. However, the existing timber windows, which are crisp and simple, will be replaced by a design that uses fatter and chunkier sections, which will appear clumsy. The Society objects to the visual impact that would result from their use and considers slimmer profile sections should be used to maintain the existing visual appearance of the building.

SDNP/19/05055/LIS: New shop front signage and gallows bracket signage to the front of the building. 42 High Street.
Friends of Lewes have no objection in principle to the proposed works. However, it is not clear from the application what materials will be used for the signage. Materials consistent with those in the Conservation Area should be used; sign written timber not plastic.

SDNP/19/05112/HOUS: Proposed loft conversion with rear dormer and front rooflights, proposed front porch extension and conversion of garage to playroom. 36 Gundreda Road.
Friends of Lewes object to the excessive size of the dormer which represents over development of the property.

SDNP/19/05397/HOUS: Erection of front porch and first floor rear extension. 8 Middle Way.
Friends of Lewes have no objection in principle to the proposed works but comments that insufficient details of the works and materials proposed are provided in the application.

SDNP/19/05457/HOUS: Erection of front porch, single storey rear extension and loft conversion with hip to gable roof extension and rear dormer. 18 East Way.
Friends of Lewes object to the excessive size of the dormer which is too wide and should be set down from the roof ridge.

SDNP/19/05494/HOUS: Proposed replacement windows to south elevation at first floor level (listed building consent under SDNP/19/05616/LIS. Flat 5 Southover Manor House Southover High Street.
Friends of Lewes have no objection to the proposed works but comments that drawings showing details of the window sections proposed should have been a validation requirement for this application.

Planning Application Approved
